A surprisingly upbeat song based on a story told by an Algoma EMT, wherein he responded to a local man's heart attack; and upon wheeling the man out facing the ambulance, was told to "turn him around" so he could happily see his home one last time before inevitably facing his own mortality. A poignant moment which was reflected when I moved from Madison to the Door County area. A part of my upcoming record, Americanara.
lyrics
Its like I'm hailin' a taxi to heaven,
Sure know that I cant afford the fare.
There's little remorse as my life flashes before me
There was seldom a worry,
Of which I seldom cared.
Taken many a risk,
Few moments I've missed;
I crossed nearly everything off my bucket list
There was seldom a woman,
I left un-kissed;
After a lifetime of rambling I suppose this is all there is.
My heart gave out,
Hardly put up a fight,
Now I'll admit,
That I've been getting blurry eye-sight,
And if I die, and I just might;
Give me a moment so I might say goodnight.
As you wheel me out,
Turn me around
As you wheel me out,
Turn me around;
This might just be the last thing that I see,
Before I'm buried in the ground
Hey there EMT,
I say, they lean in closely,
Can I ask a favor please?
Before you load me, in the ambulance;
Give me one more chance,
So I can see my home,
As you load me in,
Give that gurney a spin;
Let me take it all in,
Spokes and spires, its the place I retired in,
Where I raised my kids,
And then I mourned them when they grew old
Because this house,
Is all that remains,
Of a life well-lived, well before these chest pains;
My old woman, my sweet Lorraine,
See you on the other side,
So I can give you a migraine
As you wheel me out,
Turn me around
As you wheel me out,
Turn me around;
This might just be the last place that I'll be,
Might just be the last thing that I see,
Before I'm buried in the ground

Hunter Gatherer has a vintage vibe marrying catchy melodious tunes and resonant lyrics. His large and unique sound demands
attention, and is difficult to tie down in terms of genre. Call it what you will: alt-mericana, indie-folk, gothic country; at the end of the day, all that matters is whether or not the song is worth listening to....more
